The POTS Crisis Is Real

Nationwide, ILECs are sunsetting copper voice. Deregulation removed tariff protections, repair intervals are unpredictable, and new copper orders are effectively unavailable. For fire, elevator, security, and life-safety circuits that still expect a dial tone, doing nothing is not a strategy. California Telecom replaces those paths with a managed cellular MFVN architecture you can document for your AHJ and your insurers.

SensLynx / DataRemote 90X2 — What You Are Actually Getting

The 90X2 is an LTE/WAN router with a built-in eight-port FXS analog telephone adapter. On the data side it presents one 2.5GbE WAN/LAN interface and two 1GbE LAN ports, a USB-A host port, two standard SIM sockets, and dual SMA connectors for cellular and GNSS antennas. On the analog side you receive eight individually LED-monitored FXS ports suitable for supervised fire, security, elevator, fax, and modem-class devices when deployed per code and manufacturer guidance. Environmental ratings from the factory datasheet are 0°C to +40°C operating, −40°C to +70°C storage, and 10–90% relative humidity non-condensing.

Power, Battery, and UPS Output

The 90X2 is powered from a 19 VDC locking barrel input using the supplied AC adapter (datasheet: 19 V, 3.3 A class adapter). Internally it carries an 18-cell 15 Ah lithium pack that supports extended standby — manufacturer materials cite up to roughly 48 hours depending on alarm activity, RF conditions, and attached load — with graceful shutdown behavior and battery status signaling. A dedicated two-pin UPS output delivers 12 VDC at up to 4 A to approved downstream devices such as cordless telephone bases or small network CPE so they remain powered when utility AC is lost.

LTE, Failover, and Management Plane

Cellular air interface is LTE Category 4 with band support for typical North American deployments (LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 14, 66, and 71, plus UMTS bands 2, 4, and 5 where applicable). Ethernet WAN can serve as primary or secondary depending on design. Onboard GNSS supports location-aware services. For enterprise customers, an optional wired NAT router mode adds DHCP client/server, port forwarding, IP pass-through, and QoS oriented toward VoIP. Day-to-day configuration, mass provisioning, and telemetry integrate with the ARA management portal and API described in SensLynx documentation — layered with California Telecom's own monitoring and ticketing.

A True Drop-In Replacement at the Demarc

California Telecom installs at the demarc or structured cabling hand-off your AHJ expects — typically RJ21X / 66-block style MFVN delivery paired with acceptance testing on every analog leg. Supported downstream equipment classes include fire alarm communicators, security and burg panels, elevator phones, POS and dial payment terminals, fax and modem links, gate controls, and similar loop-start devices, subject to panel manufacturer compatibility letters and local amendments. We document cutover, RMR impact, and monitoring integration so facilities and IT share one source of truth.

Code-Compliant for Life Safety

When engineered as part of our Managed Facilities Voice Network (MFVN) deployment, the path aligns with NFPA 72 supervised signaling expectations. Hardware carries UL 864 10th Edition listing, CSFM / FDNY / LAFD acceptance, and Intertek ETL recognition. California State Fire Marshal listing 7305-2384:0002 explicitly covers DataRemote VAB-1, 90X1, and 90X2 cellular router equipment for California deployments. We package submittal binders, loop drawings, and as-built fiber/cellular test results for inspection.

Enterprise FLEX System (1–16 Lines)

Where you need more than eight analog legs or a hardened outdoor footprint, we deploy our Enterprise FLEX NEMA enclosure (14.5"H × 10.5"W × 7.5"D) with coordinated cellular router tier (4G/5G class), additional ATAs in 2/4/8-port densities, extended battery plant, RJ21X demarc, remote power cycling, and optional Wi-Fi or broadband hand-off. The 90X2 is the current-generation eight-port anchor inside many FLEX designs; larger sites may combine multiple gateways under a single monitoring contract.

Pricing

Installation is $899 for the first line and $150 for each additional line. Monthly service is $68 per line plus applicable taxes and regulatory fees. Most customers realize up to ~50% savings versus legacy metered copper. Every scope includes structured project management, porting where DIDs must migrate, and acceptance testing per leg before we sign the job complete.

Centralized Management & Support

California Telecom operates a 24/7/365 AI-assisted NOC on top of manufacturer tooling. You receive firmware governance, incident response, RMA logistics, and escalation into triple-CCIE / Fortinet NSE7 engineering when WAN or security edge issues intersect your POTS migration. Customer-facing KPIs — battery health, carrier failover events, FXS port status — surface in our portal so facilities teams see the same data we do.

Certifications & Compliance

Factory listings include FCC, PTCRB, UL/ETL safety families, UL 2054 (battery), RoHS, TAA/NDAA-friendly supply chain, and U.S. assembly for applicable SKUs. Payment-card and healthcare customers receive PCI and HIPAA control matrices mapping VLAN segmentation, encryption in transit, and logging retention to your policies. We refresh documentation whenever carriers retune band priorities or when UL reissues guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will this work with my fire alarm panel?

When deployed as part of our MFVN service with correct communicator modules and supervised wiring, yes — the 90X2 family is UL 864 10th Edition listed and appears on California State Fire Marshal listing 7305-2384:0002 together with the VAB-1 and 90X1. We coordinate test calls, central-station reconfiguration, and AHJ inspection windows. Always follow the panel manufacturer's communicator compatibility bulletin.

How much does it cost?

Installation is $899 for the first line and $150 for each additional line. Monthly service is $68 per line plus taxes and regulatory fees. Volume and multi-site scopes can qualify for custom economics — ask during discovery.

Do I need to rewire my building?

No wholesale rip-and-replace. We land service at the demarc and extend MFVN dial tone across your existing in-building copper to each device, subject to pair quality and ground-start vs loop-start rules. If a home run is damaged, we segment remediate only that leg.

What happens during a power outage?

The 90X2 internal battery maintains the gateway and FXS loops for extended standby. The 12 VDC UPS output bus can keep small downstream devices alive per datasheet limits (4 A max). FLEX enclosures add larger battery plants where AHJs require longer ride-through. We set SNMP/portal alerts for discharge cycles so NOC sees degradation before the building does.

Which cellular carriers and bands are supported?

Hardware is certified for major U.S. carriers including AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. The 90X2 and VAB-1 are FirstNet Trusted® and Network Optimized. LTE operation is Category 4 with bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 14, 66, and 71 (plus UMTS 2/4/5). Dual SIMs allow active/standby or carrier diversity designs depending on your traffic case.

How long does installation take?

Typical professional installation completes in 7–10 business days from LOA and site survey, including cutover testing. Emergency expedites are available where AHJs or insurance riders mandate a faster window.
