The Challenge

A multi-location medical group with 6 clinics across Southern California was struggling with unreliable network connectivity that caused EHR timeouts, dropped telehealth sessions, and frustrated clinical staff. Each clinic had a single broadband circuit with no failover, meaning any ISP disruption took the entire site offline.

Their WiFi infrastructure was a collection of consumer-grade routers and access points installed over the years with no centralized management or proper coverage design. Dead spots were common, and clinical devices frequently disconnected during patient encounters.

The Solution

California Telecom conducted site surveys at all 6 clinics, documenting existing infrastructure, coverage gaps, and connectivity requirements for EHR, telehealth, clinical devices, and patient WiFi. We then deployed a managed SD-WAN solution with dual circuits at each clinic: primary fiber plus LTE backup with automatic failover. If the primary circuit drops, traffic switches to LTE in seconds with no manual intervention.

Enterprise WiFi replaced the consumer equipment at every clinic, with separate SSIDs for clinical, administrative, and patient networks. Each network is segmented at the firewall level with security policies aligned to HIPAA technical safeguards. Clinical traffic is prioritized and isolated from guest use.

All 6 sites are monitored around the clock through Netverge with Vergepoint hardware deployed at each clinic. Our team handles all network infrastructure maintenance and troubleshooting. The office managers no longer need to get involved when a network issue arises.
